Guide To Skiing In Borovets
Introduction To Borovets
Borovets is the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria, dating back to the 19th Century
when it was a purpose-built hunting place for the Bulgarian Tzars. Since then, it has
transformed into a charming alpine resort, set in the foothills of the Rila Mountains.
Borovets is located at the foot of Moussala peak (2925 m) - the highest mountain on the Balkan Peninsula.
Borovets itself is easily accessible by road, at a distance of 73 km from Sofia
and 126 km from Plovdiv. The nearest town of Samokov is only 10 km from the resort.
Skill Levels In Borovets
| Beginners |
|
|
| Borovets is ideally suited to beginners, with a good range of easier slopes
located throughout the skiing area, including one starting from the
highest run on Mount Musala. Beginners have enough options to learn
the skills necessary to improve, without getting bored. |
| Intermediate |
|
|
| Skiers that have progressed beyond the level of beginner
have a decent number of pistes to hone their skills on, from
the Markudjik runs high up the mountain, to the longer
Yastrebetz and Popangelov runs further down. |
| Expert |
|
|
| While expert skiers are the least well catered for, there are
still a couple of interesting runs to master, as Borovets has twice
hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds. |
